The idea that polar shifts will potentially create "global superstorms" has been making headlines in the media recently. Some have hypothesized that a polar shift will bring about the great destruction of 2012. As we get closer to to the "doom year", more people are talking about it. In an article in Salem News, a report on recent evidence is presented to support the potential for worldwide devastation as a result of these storms. The article states "Some climate researchers, monitoring the rapidly shifting magnetic field, are predicting superstorms in the future with winds as high as 300 to 400mph."
