"Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans" [source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_warming] Many people believe global warming is a reality and the earth is undergoing a steady increase in its temperature as a result of the release of various substances into the atmosphere by corporate entities.  Some people believe the Earth is undergoing the same natural cycles is has been for thousands if not millions of years. 

If global warming is a reality, its proponents claim it would result in an increase in the sea level as a result of the polar caps melting.  This would result in global flooding and a ripple effect that would cause destruction of the planet and the lives of thousands if not millions of its inhabitants.  Some believe the eventual dissipation of the atmosphere would make it impossible to remain outdoors for extended periods.

It is doubtful that anything would happen suddenly by 2012 as a result of global warming.  It would occur slowly over hundreds if not thousands of years and would not become a reality in our lifetimes.
